MenuTiger POS User Guide

This guide describes the primary modules in MenuTiger POS and common setup workflows.

Checkout

Process sales by selecting products, adding them to the cart, choosing Dine-in, Takeaway, or Delivery, assigning a customer, applying discounts, holding orders, and completing payment.



Orders

View all orders and filter by Paid, Pending or Voided. Search by order number or customer. Cash orders require an open shift.

Creating an Order

  • Open a shift from the Shift module or Orders page.
  • Go to Checkout.
  • Search or browse products by category.
  • Click + to add products to the cart.
  • Select Dine-in, Takeaway or Delivery.
  • Assign a customer if required.
  • Adjust quantities or modifiers.
  • Apply discounts if applicable.
  • Verify subtotal and tax.
  • Click Pay and complete the payment.
  • The order will appear in the Orders screen



Customers

Maintain customer records for repeat visits and loyalty.

Products

Create and manage menu items, categories, and pricing.

How to Add a Product in MenuTiger POS

Follow these steps to create a new product in MenuTiger POS.


Step 1: Open the Products Module

  1. From the left navigation menu, click Products.
  2. Click + Add Product in the upper-right corner.

The Add Product window opens.


Step 2: Enter Basic Information

Product Name (Required). Enter the name of the product.

Open / Variable Price (Optional)

Enable this option if the cashier should enter the selling price during checkout.

Use cases:

  • Market Price items
  • Donations
  • Custom-weight products
  • Seasonal specials

Leave this option OFF for products with a fixed selling price.

Price (Required)

Enter the selling price.

Example: $4.00

Cost (Optional)

Enter the product's cost price for profit reporting.

Example: $1.20

SKU (Optional)

Enter a unique Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) for inventory management.

Example: ESP-001

Barcode (Optional)

Scan or manually enter the product barcode.

This allows cashiers to add the product by scanning the barcode at checkout.

Step 3: Assign a Category

  1. Click the Category dropdown.
  2. Select an existing category.

Examples:

  • Starters
  • Main Course
  • Desserts
  • Beverages

If no category exists, create one before adding the product.

Step 4: Add Variants (Optional)

Variants let you sell the same product in different sizes or options.

  1. Click + Add under Variants.
  2. Create one or more options.

Step 5: Assign Modifier Groups (Optional)

Modifier groups provide customers with additional choices.

  1. Under Modifier Groups, select one or more modifier groups.
  2. Examples include:
    • Add-ons
    • Temperature
    • Toppings
    • Sauces

A product can have multiple modifier groups assigned.

Step 6: Add a Description (Optional)

Enter a brief description of the product.

Example

Freshly brewed Italian espresso with a rich aroma and smooth finish.

Step 7: Add an Image (Optional)

Paste the product image URL into the Image URL field.

This image will appear in the POS and any connected MenuTiger ordering channels.

Step 8: Configure Product Availability

Available for Sale

  • ON – Product is visible and available for purchase.
  • OFF – Product is hidden from the checkout screen.

Track Inventory

Enable this option if stock should decrease automatically after each sale.

Use this for products with limited inventory such as:

  • Bottled drinks
  • Packaged foods
  • Retail items

Leave it OFF for products that don't require inventory tracking.

Step 9: Save the Product

  1. Review all product information.
  2. Click Save.

The product is now available in the Products list and, if Available for Sale is enabled, it will appear in the Checkout screen.

Best Practices

  • Use clear and consistent product names.
  • Assign every product to a category for easier navigation.
  • Use variants for different sizes instead of creating separate products.
  • Apply modifier groups only when customer customization is needed.
  • Add high-quality product images for quicker product identification.
  • Enable inventory tracking for stock-controlled items.
  • Use unique SKUs and barcodes to simplify inventory management and checkout.


Modifiers

Configure optional and required modifier groups.

How to Add a Modifier Group in MenuTiger POS

Modifier groups allow you to create product options such as Add-ons, Sizes, Sides, Toppings, or Cooking Preferences that customers can choose when ordering.

Step 1: Open the Modifiers Module

  1. From the left navigation menu, click Modifiers.
  2. Click + Add Group.

Step 2: Enter the Group Name

  1. In the Group Name field, enter a descriptive name.
    • Examples:
      • Add-ons
      • Choose a Side
      • Size
      • Cooking Preference
      • Toppings
      • Extra Cheese

Step 3: Configure the Modifier Group

Required (Optional)

  • Turn ON if the customer must select at least one option before adding the product to the cart.
  • Leave OFF if selecting a modifier is optional.

Examples

  • Required: Steak Temperature
  • Optional: Extra Cheese

Single Choice (Optional)

  • Turn ON to allow the customer to select only one option.
  • Leave OFF to allow multiple selections.

Step 4: Add Modifier Options

  1. Under Options, click + Add.
  2. Enter the option details:
    • Option Name
    • Price Adjustment (if applicable)

Click Save after adding each option.

Step 5: Save the Modifier Group

  1. Verify the group settings.
  2. Click Save.

The new modifier group will now appear in the Modifiers list.

Assign a Modifier Group to a Product

After creating a modifier group:

  1. Go to Products.
  2. Select the product you want to edit.
  3. Open the Modifiers section.
  4. Click Add Modifier Group.
  5. Select the required modifier group.
  6. Save the product.

The modifier options will now be available whenever the product is added to an order.

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive group names.
  • Enable Required only when a selection is mandatory.
  • Use Single Choice for options like Size or Cooking Preference.
  • Use multiple selection for Add-ons and Toppings.
  • Keep option names short and easy to understand.
  • Add price adjustments only when they differ from the product's base price.

Inventory

Monitor stock availability and inventory-tracked products.

Shift & Cash Drawer

Open a cashier shift before accepting cash orders.

Reports

Analyze sales and export reports.

Audit Log

Review user activities and system changes.

Staff

Invite staff and assign roles.

How to Add Staff in MenuTiger POS

The Staff module allows administrators to create user accounts for cashiers, managers, and other team members. Each staff member receives their own login credentials to access the POS.

Step 1: Open the Staff Module

  1. From the left navigation menu, click Staff.
  2. Click + Add Staff in the upper-right corner.

The Add Staff window opens.

Step 2: Enter Staff Information

Name (Required)

Enter the staff member's full name.

Email (Required)

Enter a valid email address.

This email will be used as the staff member's username to log in.

Password (Required)

Create a secure password with at least 8 characters.

Tip: Use a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters for better security.

Role (Required)

Select the appropriate role from the Role dropdown.

Example: Cashier pr admin

The assigned role determines the user's access and permissions within the POS.

Step 3: Add the Staff Member

  1. Review the entered information.
  2. Click Add.

The new staff member will be created and added to the Staff list.

Verify the Staff Member

After adding the staff member:

  1. Return to the Staff page.
  2. Confirm the new user appears in the staff list.
  3. Verify:
    • Name
    • Email
    • Role
    • Status (Active)

The staff member can now log in using the email address and password you created.

Best Practices

  • Use a unique email address for each staff member.
  • Assign the lowest level of access required for the user's responsibilities.
  • Create strong passwords with at least 8 characters.
  • Update passwords immediately if they are compromised.
  • Remove or deactivate staff accounts when employees leave the organization.
  • Regularly review staff roles and permissions to ensure appropriate access.

Stores

Manage restaurant branches.

Steps

  • Go to Stores.
  • Click Add store.
  • Enter the branch/store name.
  • Save the store.
  • Select it from the store selector.
  • Sync it from Integrations if connected to MenuTiger.

Tables

Create dine-in tables with seating capacity.

Integrations

Sync stores and menus with MenuTiger.

Settings

Configure store information, branding, tax, currency and receipts.

Settings Page Functions

The Settings page allows administrators to configure the store's basic information, tax settings, currency, branding, and receipt customization. These settings are applied across the POS system.

1. Store Details

The Store Details section contains the restaurant's primary business information.

Store Name

  • Enter or update the restaurant name.
  • Displayed throughout the POS and on printed receipts.

Phone Number

  • Add or update the restaurant's contact number.
  • Used for customer communication and receipts.

Brand Colour

  • Select the primary brand color.
  • Applied to the POS interface and connected MenuTiger services where supported.

Address

  • Enter the restaurant's physical address.
  • Displayed on customer receipts.

2. Tax & Currency

Configure how taxes and currency are applied during checkout.

Currency

  • Select the default store currency.
  • Used for pricing, sales reports, and receipts.

Example

  • USD
  • EUR
  • GBP

Tax Label

  • Define the name shown for taxes on receipts.

Examples

  • Tax, VAT, GST, Sales Tax

Tax Rate (%)

  • Enter the tax percentage applied to all sales.
  • Enter 0 if the store is tax-exempt.

3. Receipt Settings

Customize the information printed on customer receipts.

Header Note

Displayed below the store name.

Example

Welcome to Uptown Grill!

Displayed at the bottom of every receipt.

Examples

  • Thank you for your visit!
  • Visit Again Soon!
  • Follow us on social media.

4. Branding

Customize the store's appearance.

Functions include:

  • Change brand color.
  • Maintain consistent branding across the POS.
  • Improve visual identity for staff and customers.

5. Store Information Management

Administrators can update business information at any time, including:

  • Store name
  • Contact number
  • Address
  • Branding

Changes are reflected throughout the POS after saving.

6. Receipt Configuration

The Settings page allows receipt customization by configuring:

  • Store name
  • Phone number
  • Address
  • Header message
  • Footer message
  • Tax label
  • Currency
  • Tax amount

7. Tax Management

Configure tax calculations for all orders.

Functions include:

  • Set tax percentage
  • Rename the tax label
  • Disable taxes by setting the rate to 0%

8. Currency Configuration

The selected currency is used throughout the system for:

  • Product pricing
  • Checkout totals
  • Sales reports
  • Receipts
  • Order history

9. Business Identity

Maintain accurate business details for customer-facing documents.

This includes:

  • Restaurant name
  • Contact number
  • Business address
  • Brand color

Best Practices

  • Keep your store information up to date.
  • Verify the tax rate before processing live orders.
  • Use the correct currency for your business location.
  • Add a friendly header and footer message to enhance the customer experience.
  • Review receipt settings after making any changes.
  • Ensure the store address and contact number are accurate for customer support and compliance.

This page is intended for administrators to configure store-wide settings that affect checkout, reporting, receipts, and the overall branding of the MenuTiger POS system.

How to Integrate a Receipt Printer with MenuTiger POS

Step 1: Open Settings

  1. Log in to your MenuTiger POS account.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu, click Settings.
  3. Locate the Receipt printer section at the top of the Settings page.

Step 2: Download the MenuTiger Print Agent

  1. Under Receipt printer, check the installation status.
  2. Click Download for macOS if you are using a Mac.
  3. For other operating systems, select:
    • Download for Windows
    • Download for Linux

The MenuTiger Print Agent is required to connect the POS to a receipt printer and, where supported, open the cash drawer.

Step 3: Install the Print Agent

  1. Open the downloaded installer.
  2. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
  3. Complete the installation.
  4. Make sure the MenuTiger Print Agent is running on the POS computer.

Step 4: Connect the Receipt Printer

  1. Connect the receipt printer to the computer using the appropriate connection, such as USB or network connection.
  2. Turn on the printer.
  3. Make sure the printer is recognized by the computer.
  4. Load the required receipt paper.
  5. Ensure the printer is online/ready.

Step 5: Verify the Printer in MenuTiger POS

  1. Return to Settings → Receipt printer.
  2. Click I've installed it.
  3. MenuTiger POS will check for the installed Print Agent.
  4. Once detected, the printer status should change from Not installed to the appropriate connected/ready status.

Step 6: Test Printing

  1. Create a test order in the POS.
  2. Complete the checkout/payment process.
  3. Select Print Receipt.
  4. Confirm that the receipt prints correctly.
  5. If a cash drawer is connected, verify that it opens when the appropriate transaction is completed.

If the Printer Doesn't Print

Check the following:

  • The MenuTiger Print Agent is installed and running.
  • The receipt printer is powered on.
  • The printer is connected to the correct computer/network.
  • The printer has paper and is not showing an error.
  • The computer recognizes the printer.
  • The correct printer is selected as the default/receipt printer.
  • Refresh the MenuTiger POS and click I've installed it again.

Integration flow:

Settings → Download Print Agent → Install → Connect Printer → “I've installed it” → Verify → Test Print
