How do I process, hold, or recall customer orders on the Kitchen Display System (KDS)?

This article explains the daily workflow for kitchen staff, showing how to manage and track orders from the moment they arrive until they are completed.

Step-by-Step: Managing Live Orders

  1. Log in to your MENU TIGER Account: Use your administrator username and password to log into the main MENU TIGER dashboard.
  2. Find the KDS Section: On the left-side menu of your dashboard, look for and click on the Kitchen Display option.
  3. As orders come in, they will appear in the Kitchen Display page.
  4. Receive New Orders:
    • New orders automatically appear on the KDS screen in the correct category (Dine-In, Takeaway, Delivery, or Pickup).
    • When an order arrives, the preparation timer starts immediately.
  5. Prioritize Orders (Drag and Drop):
    • During busy times, kitchen staff can click and drag any order ticket to move it to the top of the list. This helps visually prioritize the orders that need to be made first.
  6. Mark Items as Ready:
    • As individual food items are prepared, staff can tap or click on the item on the ticket to mark it as complete.
  7. Complete the Order:
    • Once all items on a ticket have been marked as ready, the entire order will move from the Open orders view to the Completed page.

Using Special Order Features (Hold and Recall)

Feature When to Use It How to Use It
Hold Function Use this when you must temporarily pause an active order (e.g., a critical ingredient is missing, or the customer asked for a delay). Click the Hold button on the ticket. You must enter a brief reason for the delay. The timer on the order will stop.
Recall Function Use this when an order was marked as complete by mistake, or if a mistake was noticed and the item needs to be remade. Go to the Completed page, find the order, and click Recall. You must enter a reason. The order will move back to the Open orders list, and the timer will restart.

By using the KDS to complete, hold, and recall orders, your kitchen can maintain an accurate, digital log of all service times and preparation statuses.

Which plans support KDS?

The KDS feature is available exclusively with Premium and Advanced subscription tiers. It is not available on the Freemium or Regular plans, but a 14-day free trial is available.
